In our research we found this gem of a post going back to May 27 1998 when Terry Hallman first visited Russia and Ukraine looking for a wife. He is still looking.

To all,
I for one think the Russian wives list is a terrific idea! Obviously,
Foreign Brides is mainly geared for those on The Quest--that complex
maze of actually finding a suitable wife. Seems to me that it's a
testament to RW in general that their Western husbands are so
motivated to share AFTER the fact, which makes it that much more
encouraging to me in the searching stages. Also, the Russian wives
site should provide a specialized reference for those who need such
very specific info, without wading through vast quantities of
irrelevant information. The resultant archive should thus end up
being a very useful, handy reference guide. And during The Quest, it
can only be warmly reassuring to a potential bride for us to be able
to show that we have been thoughtful and consciencious enough to
consider well in advance the adjustment and cultural difficulties she
could have--and that we have already networked and prepared
accordingly! The Russian wives listserv can only help, and I think it
is one helluva good idea to do everything we can to make wives and
wives-to-be feel as safe, secure, and comfortable as is possible.
Toward that end, the Russian wives listserv sounds like a HUGE step in
a very good direction for all concerned. Win-Win for all. Works for
me.
Best,
Terry H.
I decided awhile back to search for a wife abroad and opted for the
Web as the obvious means of making at least initial contact. My
biggest concern has been how to protect myself from being fleeced for
cash or cheated in some other way. And a great deal of time is still
devoted to that personal concern: how do I minimize the chances of
getting burned, knowing well that single, searching, and lonely hearts
are very easy to take advantage of. Thus my insistence on keeping a
firm (albeit sometimes unromantic) grip on reality. With all due
caution taken to protect myself, I've focused on networking with
others toward that end. I know it is a concern we all share. Having
read the GQ article, and following it with further readings on the
general topic of mail-order brides, one thing comes to fore that
really bothers me. In my own zeal, which I'm sure is common among
most who are on The Quest, I forgot about what it might be like for
the women around the world who take their chances in the marriage
market (so to speak...) While the GQ article chronicles systematic
abuse of innocent young women brought into the States by one man, one
can only wonder how widespread this is. Like it or not, just by being
on The Quest for a foreign bride we are creating growth in a very
fast-growing industry. And this industry seems to pose a much greater
threat to hopeful young women than it does to those of us who seek
them out. So now I'm feeling a bit guilty because I did not even
think of what the risks are for these women, nor how big those risks
really are! Which brings me to the question: do you think those of us
who participate in this industry--where real people, real feelings,
real lives are being intimately affected--have any responsibility to
somehow try to keep it safe? If so, just for ourselves? Or are we
obliged to seek to protect these vulnerable young women in general as
well?

To all,
I thought it will be useful to provide some perspective here about the
why's and wherefore's for this mail list.
There does not seem to be any other place to freely exchange ANY and
ALL sorts of info related to finding foreign brides in general, and
women from the former Soveit Union (FSU) in particular. It is the
latter that was the primary driving force for starting this list
service. I was frankly a little surprised to catch heat from the
moderators of the previous listserv for asking what I thought were
perfectly legitimate questions about the operations of a major-league
intro agency. One of the moderators seriously flamed me privately and
ridiculed me publicly for doing so. I got the clear impression that
some questions are better left unasked. So it seems that to a limited
degree, the first list service is fine for Q and A, but just don't get
into anybody else's business in depth--even if their business is
introducing people for the purpose of marriage. In other words, don't
ask the HARD questions.
The probing questions are most useful. It's all fine and good to know
the nuances of handling visas, the differences in doing so from
country to country, and hundreds of other little details that are
necessarily associated with finding and marrying a foreign woman. In
fact, these details are invaluable, and I hope they are included here
also. But those details don't matter until and unless we have
actually MET someone, in some manner, for whom and with whom such
preparations are needed. This means using information from one agency
or another to make the initial and perhaps even ongoing contacts. And
that part of it has by and large been a shot in the dark, with time
alone telling if a given route is bogus or not. Some of us have time
to waste like that, even money. Some don't, or prefer not to. It's
frustrating and inefficient, to say the least. So, just share info as
we go along. Who's doing what? Where's the good news? Where's the bad
news? Who's honest? Who's scamming? Who's someplace in between?
That's why this is here. Complete information. Just please keep in
honest, and we hopefully will be able to separate fact from
fantasy/fiction. There are without doubt many lovely women who will
make the best of wives. Sorting through the BS to find them,
regardless of the nature of questions that need to asked, is a crucial
function. It is this function which I hope this list well be able to
serve well.
Also, please note that discussions and information need NOT be limited
to any one geographic women. Feel free to share info on Asian, Latin,
and/or any regions and cultures you wish. This is meant to be as open
as possible in all respects, with the sole purpose being to help each
other as much as possible in finding that special woman whom will
eventually become our wife--no matter WHERE she is!!!
That's it for now. Here we go. Let The Quest ... continue!!
Best to all,
Terry Hallman
For those of you who might be interested in Ukrainian
women, I've just finished a web site (pro bono, I'm
not getting paid for this) at
http://www.ukrainian-beauty.com/
The owner is a nice Ukrainian lady who tried to do it
on her own. She was having some problems with it,
someone I know referred it to me, and I decided to
help her out and build the site for her.
For those interested in Russian and Ukrainian women
and travel to those countries to meet them, I can
probably answer a lot of questions. I'm American, in
case in matters, and spend a lot of time in Russia.
Maybe now I'll also go to Ukraine ;-)
Below is a full list of Terry Hallman's most inner thoughts on tghe forum in his search for a Russian/Ukrainian bride., This is the real reason he visited Russia and Ukraine. Over ten years living in the region and he could only speak the most basic Russian.Ukrainain. He never did find a wife.
